The Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) joins the nation in mourning the loss of former Chief Justice Renato Corona. The former Chief Justice spent most of his adult life serving our country in various capacities in government.
Many may not be aware of it but it was his 2003 decision which paved the way for the recovery if the USD 650 Million Swiss accounts illegally owned by the Marcoses. This remains one of the more enduring legacies of the former Chief Justice with the Swiss money having long been remitted to the government. And this decision is the very foundation up on which other Marcos ill-gotten assets continue to be recovered by the government.
And at this moment, we in the Commission, express our deepest condolences to the family of the former Chief Justice and thank them for allowing the country to benefit from the invaluable service rendered by former Chief Justice Corona to the Filipino people.
