In compliance with its legal mandate to recover and to transfer to the government all ill-gotten wealth accumulated by former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, his immediate family, relatives, subordinates and close associates, The Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on October 21, 2015 to cooperate in the conduct of an appraisal and eventual auction of confiscated ill-gotten jewelry and gem collections from the Marcoses.
The collection includes jewelry that were confiscated by US Customs from the Marcoses upon their arrival in Hawaii on 26 February 1986 and those confiscated from Demetrious Roumeliotes, an alleged close associate of the Marcoses as he attempted to smuggle them out of the country less than a week after the overthrow of Ferdinand Marcos.
Internationally known and acknowledged appraisers have been invited to appraise the collection, which PCGG and BOC expect to happen within the year.
